There’s a persistent trend towards 3D across various distinct media. Since we are still only seeing the beginning of this trend, it might be easy to mistake it for a hype. Because of our linear thinking and technology’s logarithmic growth, people tend to overestimate technology in the short run, and underestimate it in the long run.
Content, such as movies and images are not just 2D anymore. Yet a big increase in the amount of 3D content is expected as recording equipment is becoming more accessible. The investments in 3D recording and authoring equipment are expected to grow as there are more people with the right display equipment. The display equipment itself, such as computer monitors, TV’s, beamers, are rapidly deceasing in cost and almost any decent cinema has one or more 3D projectors. 3D printers allow content to come alive and be used in our daily lives. These too, have seen a rapid decrease in cost (the lowest cost 3D printers have gone from 24,000 euro’s to 350 euro’s within a decade).
The future is 3D. Invest in it now!
